How Many Channels Does PC Satellite TV have?
If you've been looking around at various PC satellite TV services, one of the claims that may have astonished you are the sheer number of channels that some of these services boast. Many of the services out there offer upwards of 2,000 channels, with some even offering 3,000, 4,000, or over 5,000! It sounds too good to be true, and you probably may be wondering to yourself what exactly the catch is.
Frankly, the catch is simply that the reason why many PC satellite TV services have so many channels is that the bulk of those channels are international. In other words, they come from foreign countries. By sourcing channels from across the globe, PC satellite TV services are able to provide their subscribers with tons and tons of options - which is a good thing!
However at the same time you're bound to find that you only really use a fraction of the channels. Sure, you might view a couple of international channels here and there, but many are in foreign languages and so unless you happen to speak or understand one of those then you're going to be stuck with only the fraction of channels that are actually in English.
Of these English channels, quite a number will be news channels, shopping channels, and so on - which are nice to have around, but not exactly what most people switch on the TV for. At the end of the day, you'll probably find that while you still do have access to more channels than cable TV services would provide, it certainly isn't as many as it would be including the foreign channels.
Different PC satellite TV services have different packages of channels, and thus trying to determine exactly how many channels you can expect to obtain (and how many of those will be in English) is a rather moot point. Suffice to say most of the better (read: paid) PC satellite TV services nowadays provide an ample selection of English-speaking channels that cut across practically every single genre of entertainment that you could imagine.
In a nutshell - you probably aren't going to miss much.
All things said and done, PC satellite TV has the advantage of being able to offer as many channels as they see fit. However, you'll find from time to time that some of these channels aren't working, or may be down momentarily. On occasion you may even find the video quality to be less than idea. Still - with the options arrayed in front of you, you're still going to be spoilt for choice.
